  • Early Canid Domestication: The Farm Fox Experiment by Dmitri Belyaev and Lyudmila Trut
This project started out as an attempt to breed calmer foxes for use in fur farms, and became a landmark study on domestication. Breeding silver (red) foxes solely for human-friendly temperament, Belyaev and Trut "accidentally" produced a host of unlikely physiological changes — which just happened to be changes commonly associated with the process domestication. The facility's current web site is available here, and more info about the tame foxes is available here.
