Help support wolves by becoming a Wolf Sponsor. Through
personal updates and extensive biographies wolf sponsors will get to know
"their" wolf on a personal level. Our sponsorship program provides a
unique opportunity to come to know one of these complex social animals as
individuals and to learn more about their lives. This personal bond
between a real live wolf and his/her sponsors forms a bridge of concern
for wolves in the wild, for which our wolves are ambassadors.
Individual sponsors as well as clubs and school groups are supporting
wolves. The latter often raise funds through wolf walks and the sale of
recycled materials. Teachers often find class sponsorship of a wolf an
effective rallying point for promoting interest in wildlife conservation.
Pat Goodmann is in charge of this program and reports four times a year
on the social status and special events in the life of each wolf. With
each update sent out she also includes a current photo of the wolf (taken
by professional photographer Monty Sloan) and in the summer, each
sponsor receives a sample of wool from their wolf that has shed in the
spring. A number of sponsors arrange vacation trips to Wolf Park and in
most cases they can personally meet their wolf or a stand-in wolf (by
appointment only).
You must be at least 18 years old, able bodied, dressed properly and willing and able to follow instructions to meet a wolf.
Wolf Park's primary concern is safety, for both visitors and wolves. First-time sponsors will be shown a series of educational materials -- including video and a slideshow -- describing wolf/human interactions, and have a one-on-one question-and-answer session with a staff member before their first visit with a wolf. This "educational interlude" will last approximately one hour.
Sponsors scheduling their first visits should plan their trips with this in mind and allow extra time, and check with the office on when they should arrive to view the materials.
The Park reserves the right to occasionally schedule refresher sessions for sponsors, or schedule viewing of new, pertinent material.
Sponsorship Visitation Schedule Change
We wish to provide every one of you with an enriching and pleasant experience when you visit, and, due to staff limitations and safety and insurance concerns, we are afraid that we are not giving each weekend sponsor equal, adequate, unrushed time in which to enjoy their animals. In order to make your weekend visits as smooth and easy-to-schedule as possible, we are instituting a new weekend schedule beginning January 1, 2007:
Saturday sponsor visits will be held at 3:00 pm only. We will take up to six sponsors in with the main pack only at that time. First-time sponsors will need to arrive at 1:00 pm to view the instructional video. You only need to view the video once.
All sponsors are invited to meet the main pack, regardless of which wolf they have adopted.
There will no longer be sponsor visits scheduled on Sundays. We no longer feel we are able to give sponsors who visit on Sundays the full benefit of their sponsorship privileges.
Weekday visits have NOT changed, and may still be scheduled as normal, Monday through Friday, 9-5.
What does this mean for you? You will still be able to visit the wolves on weekends; you will get more "quality time" with our animals; visits will feel less rushed; and other Park events will not "crowd out" your wolf time.
We want our sponsors to be getting as much access as possible to their animals in a relaxed setting, and this is not occurring with our current scheduling system. We hope that this new schedule will allow as many sponsors as possible to visit with the animals on weekends, while also reducing staff backlog and eliminating "time crunches" so all our visitors can enjoy a pleasurable visit at Wolf Park.
Please note that scheduling of sponsorship visits for Monday through Friday has NOT changed. You may continue to schedule visits as normal (anytime from 9-5) Monday through Friday and visit your animal as normal, whether it resides in the main pack or at East Lake.
Wolf Park would like to thank each and every one of you for supporting our wolves and our mission. Each one of you is very special to us. Our sponsors are the primary support for Wolf Park, and, without you, we literally could not continue to exist. Thank you so much!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us at (765) 567-2265, Mon-Fri 9-5.
We thank you again for all your help and look forward to seeing you soon!
